In the early days, living space was limited in Heart Village, often leading to multiple households residing in a single building. As more and more children were born, there was even a case where one house accommodated 16 people. The problem was finally resolved after the villagers started to build their own houses, expanded the original houses or changed the layout to make rooms like turning the kitchen into a children's room.
The close-knit community fostered strong relationships among the families in the military dependents’ village. If the parents were not home, the children often went to their neighbors’ homes to eat and study together. When parents were busy with work, they would also ask neighbors for help in taking care of their children. Many children in Heart Village attended the Datun Mei-Li Kindergarten and Zhongshan Elementary School (later renamed as Yixian Elementary School) together. This led to strong bonds and close friendships. Even after they grew up, many of them continued to stay in touch.
