The artist is a painter and ceramicist who excels at mixed-media drawing. She works at a leisurely pace, savouring each stroke of her brush. Even as a child, she used toys as her brushes and spent most of her student years in the art studio, often self-deprecatingly remarking that "it seems like all I can do in life is draw pictures."

In addition to her artistic pursuits, she has a passion for raising animals and plants, slow travel, playing musical instruments, collecting mysterious toys, and reading esoteric books. Recently, she has been combining her life experiences with her art, creating works that are soothing to the mind and soul.

Sculptures

"Deep Affection" means "Fiery Ruminations" in its Chinese subject. It's a display about releasing love. Since 2020, Huang Shiang has been using the pen name "Lady with Bird" to create a series of new works featuring her beloved birds as subjects. In the language of birds, "ruminating" is the act of regurgitating undigested food from an animal and feeding it to another one as a gesture of goodwill. Similarly, when humans fall in love, they often feel a burning desire to give everything to their beloved, which forms the core idea behind "Deep Affection."

Described by Huang Shiang as "a thousand cries in the name of love," this exhibition invites visitors to explore the topics of affection, concern, sacrifice, selflessness, generosity, and tolerance associated with love, as well as the messy emotions that cannot be easily untangled. Accompanied by poetic text, the artwork leads viewers to reflect on their own emotional pursuits.
