City Landscape Changes Along The Railroad

During the Japanese colonial period, the Western Trunk Line North gradually extended across Taiwan, with more stations opening throughout Taipei. From west to east, these included Wanhua Station, Taipei Station, Huashan Freight Station, Songshan Station, and Nangang Station. Various industrial plants began to emerge around these new stations, producing sugar, tobacco, alcohol, camphor, and lumber. Raw materials and finished goods from the factories were then transported back along the Western Trunk Line North, forming the interconnected web of bustling industry that once defined Taipei.
