Venerable Master Hsing Yun is a monk from Yangzhou who never received a formal education and never received a diploma. Coming to Taivan alone, he labored tirelessly to found the Pure Land of the Buddha's light. For more than 60 years, he has opened Buddhism's universal gate invitingly to politicians, celebrities, and the general public. His every thought, spoken word, and action all abide to one principle: never do anything that is not for Buddhism. In the Dharma Hall of the Founding Master, there is a long table where Venerable Master takes his meals, writes calligraphy, holds meetings, and meets his guests.
There are no drawers or locks. Although there is a cabinet, he has never opened it. Regardless of how the environment around him changes, Venerable Master lives his life as an ordinary monk whose duty it is to propagate the dharma to beneft sentient beings.
