Memory

Liu, Shin-Yi

This work portrays a young girl resting her head gently on her arm, wrapped in the comforting warmth of a thick quilt as the morning sunlight fills the room, lost in quiet contemplation. The inspiration came from a night of snowfall in Shirakawa-go, Japan, where the freshly fallen snow appeared soft and inviting—like a quilt one longed to curl up beneath. Although the work is titled Memories, it does not refer to any particular moment from the past. Instead, it alludes to the many facets of memory, at times warm and tender, at others cold and piercing. Like this quilt woven from snow, it may appear icy on the surface, yet it quietly holds the warmth that lingers deep within the heart. Comforting Whispers|The tenderness of the past remains with us, quietly accompanying us through the passage of time.
